The Serengeti Safari Marathon 2022: Latest News
We are thrilled to report the success of the 5th edition of the Serengeti Safari Marathon, one of the wildest and most unique marathons in the world. The 2022 race took place around the iconic Serengeti National Park on 12th November, with more than 1000 participants from all over the world, including nine members from the I Artist Adventure team.
This marathon offers an extraordinary running experience amidst one of Africa’s most treasured natural wonders—Serengeti National Park in northern Tanzania. The event features four different routes, catering to a wide range of runners, from the 42 km full marathon to a 5 km fun run. Each race starts at 0500 from the Ndabaka Gate at the western entrance to the Serengeti, offering participants a breathtaking view of the African sunrise as they begin their journey.
The Marathon's Unique Approach to Conservation
The Serengeti Safari Marathon is not just about running; it’s about preserving the incredible natural landscapes of Tanzania. Event organizers work closely with National Park Rangers to ensure that all race routes within the Serengeti National Park are properly supervised and protected during the event. The marathon’s purpose extends beyond athletic achievement, focusing on sustainable conservation and the economic growth of Tanzania’s regional communities.
Timothy Mdinka, the Director of the Serengeti Safari Marathon, emphasized that the race aims to blend tourism and conservation efforts, ensuring that the Serengeti continues to thrive for future generations. In the days leading up to the marathon, events like the Conservation Talk were held, where conservation experts discussed key environmental challenges facing Tanzania, including the preservation of the Serengeti ecosystem.
The I Artist Adventure Team at the Marathon
This year, our team from I Artist Adventure had the privilege of participating in this landmark event. Nine of our team members, both local and international, joined the race and crossed the finish line with impressive times. Notably, Faisal Bakari and James Dismas from our Reservations and Knowledge Support departments ran the 21 km half-marathon.
Robbin Meulemans, Co-Founder of I Artist Adventure, reflected on the experience, saying, “This was an incredible opportunity for our team to come together, experience the beauty of Tanzania, and contribute to the ongoing conservation efforts in the Serengeti.”
Looking Ahead to Future Marathons
With a growing number of athletes from around the globe, the Serengeti Safari Marathon continues to gain popularity.
