Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is the adventure of a lifetime—but no trekker does it alone. In fact, you physically can’t make it to the summit without the essential support of porters.

Why?

Because every climber requires an average of 225 pounds (102 kg) of gear, supplies, and equipment to reach the Roof of Africa—and get back down safely.

Here’s what makes up that weight per trekker:

  • 40 lbs – Personal luggage & duffel bag

  • 15 lbs – Sleeping tent & mountaineering mattress

  • 15 lbs – Dining equipment & table setup

  • 20 lbs – Portable toilet & privacy tent

  • 25 lbs – Food supplies (fresh meals for the entire trek)

  • 10 lbs – Water filtration, storage & daily supply

  • 20 lbs – Cooking gear (stove, gas, utensils)

  • 10 lbs – Safety gear (oxygen, first aid kits, radios)

  • 25 lbs – Porter’s personal gear

  • 15 lbs – Extra weather gear & emergency layers

  • 30 lbs – Waste management & eco materials

 Total: 225 lbs per climber

Now imagine carrying all of that while trekking through rainforest, alpine desert, and arctic summit zones—at altitudes of up to 19,341 feet (5,895 meters). It would be impossible without our experienced porters.

At I Artist Adventure, our porters carry the load so you can focus on your climb. They set up camp, prepare meals, navigate terrain, and ensure your comfort and safety every step of the way.

They are the heart of every successful summit—and the reason your Kilimanjaro dream becomes reality.
