Our Recent Travels: Exploring Tanzania’s Wild Beauty
Visiting Tanzania’s breathtaking wilderness means witnessing vast savannas, abundant wildlife, and rich cultural heritage. In February, our I Artist Adventure team embarked on a 4-day journey through some of Tanzania’s most iconic safari destinations. We explored the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and the Tarangire National Park—each offering an unforgettable experience in the heart of Africa.
We were lucky to witness an incredible lion pride on our first game drive. A mother lioness was teaching her cubs how to stalk their prey, a rare and fascinating sight that showcased the raw beauty of nature.
Where did we travel to and where did we stay?
Our journey began in Arusha, where we set off towards the legendary Serengeti National Park, famous for its vast plains and abundant wildlife. Our first stop was at Serengeti Safari Lodge, offering luxurious accommodations with panoramic views of the endless savanna. The lodge’s infinity pool overlooked a frequently visited watering hole, where we observed elephants, zebras, and even a few playful warthogs. Serengeti Safari Lodge provided an unmatched game-viewing experience, where we spotted four of the Big Five—lion, elephant, buffalo, and leopard—on a single morning drive. Giraffes elegantly roamed the plains, while cheetahs rested in the tall grass, conserving energy before their next hunt. Our adventure continued in Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most remarkable wildlife sanctuaries on Earth. We stayed at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, perched on the rim of the crater, offering spectacular views. The crater itself is home to an astonishing concentration of wildlife, including the elusive black rhino. For the last two nights, we headed to Tarangire National Park, staying at Tarangire Treetops Lodge, where we slept in elegant treehouse-style suites built into ancient baobab trees. The park is famous for its large elephant herds and iconic baobab-dotted landscapes, and it did not disappoint! What did we do?
We experienced thrilling game drives in each park, led by expert guides with deep knowledge of Tanzania’s ecosystems. At Serengeti Safari Lodge, we witnessed part of the Great Migration, where thousands of wildebeests and zebras moved across the plains in search of fresh grazing. The sheer scale of this movement was breathtaking, with predators like lions and hyenas lurking nearby, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. In Ngorongoro Crater, we descended into the caldera for an up-close encounter with rhinos, hippos, and large flocks of flamingos. Our guide explained how this natural wonder, formed millions of years ago, has created a self-contained ecosystem teeming with life. Tarangire offered a unique walking safari experience, allowing us to explore the bush on foot. Walking past towering baobabs and spotting small creatures like dung beetles, bush babies, and colorful birds was a refreshing change from vehicle-based safaris. What did we eat?
Our journey was not just about wildlife—it was also a culinary adventure! At Serengeti Safari Lodge, we enjoyed a sundowner cocktail by the fire before indulging in a Swahili-inspired dinner featuring grilled meats, fresh seafood, and coconut-infused dishes. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge treated us to a mix of gourmet meals and traditional Tanzanian fare. The highlight? A lakeside bush breakfast featuring freshly baked mandazi (Swahili doughnuts), tropical fruits, and a rich cup of Tanzanian coffee. At Tarangire Treetops, we experienced a magical bush dinner under the stars, where Maasai warriors performed traditional dances as we feasted on flame-grilled meats and flavorful stews.Favorite travel moments
One unforgettable moment was witnessing a leopard silently stalking its prey in the Serengeti at dusk. The anticipation was electrifying as we watched the masterful hunter move with stealth and precision. Another highlight was an intimate cultural experience with the Maasai people, who welcomed us into their village to share their traditions and way of life. Learning about their deep connection to nature and their vibrant, time-honored customs added an enriching dimension to our safari. Lastly, nothing compared to the serene sunrise over Ngorongoro Crater, where the golden light painted the landscape in breathtaking hues while hippos yawned in the morning mist.Top travel tips
