Tanzania Safari Tours & Africa Adventures
Tanzania's most accessible southern park — a 'mini Serengeti' of open plains and big game, reachable by road from Dar in a day.
Mikumi is the southern circuit’s most accessible park — a five- to six-hour drive from Dar es Salaam on a sealed road, with no flight required. Its open Mkata floodplain, often called a ‘mini Serengeti’, supports lion, elephant, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, and abundant plains game, with good year-round viewing.
Bordering the vast Nyerere ecosystem, Mikumi offers a genuine, affordable safari for those short on time or budget, and makes an excellent first stop on an overland southern trip or a road-based safari from Dar.
A scenic 5–6 hour road transfer — no flight needed.

Visit the hippo pools and waterholes.
Mikumi is the practical, budget-friendly southern park — accessible by road, good wildlife, no flight cost. It's not as wild or exclusive as Ruaha or Nyerere, and the main highway cuts through it, but for an affordable safari close to Dar, or an overland start to the south, it's excellent value.
