This compact seasonal safari keeps both nights in the Ndutu area rather than using the southern plains as a rushed day trip.

From December into March, short-grass plains across the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and southern Serengeti can hold large wildebeest herds. The peak calving period is often January and February, when predator activity can also be intense.

Rainfall, grass and herd movement determine the exact daily route. Calving, hunts and large herd concentrations are natural events and cannot be guaranteed. A road start from Arusha provides landscape context; a scheduled flight can be considered when time and baggage requirements support it.

Two Ndutu nights
Stay close to the seasonal plains instead of losing field time to repeated long transfers.
Calving-season timing
Operate only during the southern migration period, with the strongest calving window usually in January and February.
Green-season photography
Fresh grass, dramatic skies and softer light create a distinctive photographic season.
Private field decisions
Your guide adjusts daily routes according to herd reports, road conditions and responsible viewing.

  • When is the best time for wildebeest calving?

The southern migration season usually runs from December to March, with the strongest calving period often in January and February. Timing varies with rainfall and grass.

  • Are births or predator hunts guaranteed?

No. These are natural events. Staying two nights near Ndutu improves field time but cannot guarantee a specific sighting.

  • Will the roads be muddy?

Green-season rain can make some tracks muddy. Safari vehicles and routes are adjusted to current conditions.

  • Can this safari start from Zanzibar?

Yes, when scheduled flight connections and camp airstrip access work for your dates. Baggage limits apply.
