MOUNT KILIMANJARO NOW HAS HIGH-SPEED INTERNET – A MAJOR DEVELOPMENT FOR TANZANIA
The experts at I Artist Adventure are pleased to report that Mount Kilimanjaro now has high-speed internet, thanks to the latest investment from Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation (TTC). The broadband towers were officially connected on Tuesday, 16th August, making it possible to receive internet coverage at an altitude of 3,720 meters. This milestone is being celebrated across Tanzania as a historic achievement for the region.Improved Safety on Kilimanjaro
As Africa’s highest mountain and the world’s tallest free-standing peak, Mount Kilimanjaro attracts over 35,000 visitors annually. Now, with improved internet facilities, those trekking Kilimanjaro will benefit from vastly enhanced access to safety and navigation tools. Speaking at the launch of the service at Horombo Huts, a popular rest camp en route to Uhuru Peak, Tanzania’s Minister of Information and Communication, Nape Moses Nnauye, praised the development:“Previously, it was a bit dangerous for visitors and porters who had to operate without internet. All visitors will get connected up to this point of the mountain.”The ultimate goal is full connectivity by the end of 2022, with coverage set to extend to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters).
Staying Connected in Tanzania’s Wildest Places
Aside from the safety benefits, this development means that climbers can stay connected with loved ones and share their incredible journey in real-time. In an interview with Dutch news corporation RTLnieuws, a local Kilimanjaro guide shared:“It’s incredibly unique that you can now have an internet connection even way up there on Kilimanjaro. It’s not only about having fun and posting on social media, but it’s also a very useful development. In terms of rescue operations on the challenging slopes of Africa’s highest mountain, having this level of connectivity can be life-saving.”
A More Connected Tanzania
This is part of a broader effort to extend connectivity across Tanzania’s top tourism destinations. Minister Nnauye has also urged TTC to expand coverage to other major national parks and attractions.“The tourism industry in Tanzania is growing every year,” says I Artist Adventure founder. “Improvements like this greatly enhance infrastructure and support the booming travel market. With Mount Kilimanjaro being one of the most sought-after experiences with our guests at I Artist Adventure, we recognize the importance of this development and look forward to improved connectivity and enhanced safety measures for everyone.”For more information on trekking Mount Kilimanjaro with I Artist Adventure, contact us at info@iartistadventure.com.
